Türkiye PLACED 9TH IN THE NATO LOCKED SHIELD EXERCISE HELD WITH THE SUPPORT OF CYBER CLUSTER MEMBERS

Türkiye SUCCESSFULLY PASSED THE NATO CYBER SECURITY EXERCISE

In the NATO Locked Shield Exercise, the team including members of the Türkiye Cyber Security Cluster came 9th among 24 teams consisting of 31 countries.

Turkey achieved significant success and placed 9th in the Locked Shield Exercise, the world's most complex and realistic cyber war simulation, in which approximately 2 thousand people from the NATO Cyber Defense Center of Excellence (CCDCOE) and NATO Partnership for Peace Program member countries participated.

From our cluster members Aselsan, Havelsan, STM, Beam Technology, Difose, Interprobe, Gais, Karel, Kriptek, Turkcell, Türksat, Tübitak BİLGEM and Ulak Communication The Turkish team, including its engineers, achieved its best result ever, placing 9th among 24 teams from 31 countries.

Additionally, the green team that prepared the exercise environment included members of the green team.Forestall took place.

Under the coordination of Turkish Armed Forces Cyber Defense Command, T.R. Presidency Directorate of Communications, T.R. Within the scope of the exercise in which the Presidential Digital Transformation Office, the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the General Directorate of Security, BTK, BDDK, TÜBİTAK and Roketsan participated, 24 blue teams are performing cyber defense, while a red team, which is a mixed team of NATO, is carrying out a cyber attack.

The scoring of blue teams defending against attacks against fictional critical infrastructures is made according to the usability, availability and attack blocking performance of the defended systems.

The usability and accessibility scores of the systems start with a positive value and decrease as there are disruptions in access and usability due to attacks. There is no change in the attack points when the blue teams prevent attacks with the defensive tactics, techniques and procedures they develop, but each attack they cannot defend causes a loss of points.

Approximately 10 thousand different attacks are carried out as a result of the two-day red team attacks, and the blue teams that can best defend critical infrastructures in terms of tactics, inspection and procedure are ranked based on the total scores consisting of usability, accessibility and attack blocking scores, as well as the weighted average of these scores.

The security of over a hundred different endpoints, including different operating systems, web applications, SCADA, 5G, satellite, banking, air defense and network devices, was successfully ensured.

Türkiye has been participating in the exercise, which was launched in 2010 by CCDCOE, which was established in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, in 2008, for the last 10 years. Türkiye was 18th in 2019 and 14th in 2021 in the exercise, which could not be held in 2020 due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
